After searching through the internet I was disappointed at how few books and videos cover the topic of electronic collar training. After purchasing, I was pleasantly surprised at how much solid information was packed into this little E collar training book. The information provided was professionally presented and the author, Pat Nolan, does NOT waste the readers time packing it with padded, superfluous or redundant material. He is an excellent teacher and writer who very methodically leads you through his short book (in a similar way, I suppose, that he leads his dogs!) He writes like someone who really "owns" his subject matter and has put a great deal of time into his craft, studying animal behavior and experimenting with different techniques and finding out what really works. I was especially impressed when he casually included information on intermittent reward schedules that I recalled from my study years ago in animal behavioral psychology. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is looking for a concise but thorough manual on training a dog with an electronic collar. You can always supplement this book with internet videos but the book should give you a solid foundation. Well worth the purchase price. First - those one-star reviews gave every eCollar book one-star reviews. They are misguided people who think eCollars are bad for the dog. They can be, but are not when used as in this book. Tugging on a leash can be bad or good also, depending on how it is done.The Pat Nolan book is super short - and more of an instruction manual that should come with a collar than a book, but everything he says actually makes sense. I am withholding a star because it should talk about the four ways to change the reinforcement schedule, and should show and explain the positive-negative quadrant and talk more about training theory. But, I have three books on eCollars, and this is the only one that has a method that makes sense in all ways.
